A Study on Change of Incidence of Radiologically Active Pulmonary Tuberculosis Among Seoul National University Freshmen from 1977 Till 1987

Abstract
The incidence of radiologically active pulmonary tuberculosis among the freshmen of Seoul National University has been examined during the period of 1977- 1987, and it has been compared with the incidence of Korean general population and also with the incidence of the similar age group in Korea. 1) Among the freshmen, the incidences of radiologically active pulmonary tuberculosis in consecutive year from 1977 are 2.5 % in 1977, 1.0% in 1978, 1.5% in 1979, 1.7% in 1980, 1.1 % in 1981, 0.5% in 1982, 0.6% in 1983, 0.7% in 1984, 0.6% in 1985, 0.6% in 1986, and 0.2% in 1987. 2) Comparing the incidences of radiologically active pulmonary tuberculosis between Seoul National University freshmen and Korean general population, the Korean general population showed higher incidence of 2.5% in 1980, 2.2% in 1985 respectively 3) In comparisons between Seoul National University freshmen and similar age group of Korean general population, the latter showed 2.1 % in 1980, 1.7% in 1985 respectively. 4) The comparison of incidences between male and female freshmen showed higher incidence among male in all consecutive years except in 1979. 5) The incidence of radiologically active pulmonary tuberculosis was higher among the students of repeatedly taking a college entrance examinations than the students of not repeating it except in 1985 and 1986. 6) The incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis was high among freshmen of colleges of law and engineering and low in college of music and college of domestic economics. 7) Drop out rate during the follow-up treatment period in Health center was 55.5% and cure rate was 44 .4%
