Abstract |
Studies on the radiological prevalence of the pulmonary tuberculosis in the diabetic patients were carried out on 441 cases (male 269 and female 172) who were hospitalized in Department of Medicine, St. Paul’s Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic Medical ColIege, from Jan. 1971 to Dcc. to 1975 and compared with the KNTA National Survey in 1975.
1. The prevalence of the radiologically suspected pulmonary tuberculosis in diabetics was 11.6% and the male/ female ratio was 3.25: 1. The prevalence according to age group was significantly differ from the prevalence of the National Survey.
2. The rate of the advanced pulmonary tuberculosis in diabetics was higher than the Survey prevalence.
3. The longer the duration of diabetes, the higher the prevalence was noted.
4. There was no significant relationship between the fasting blood sugar level and the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis in diabetics.
5. The difference of the complications between the diabetics with pulmonary tuberculosis and without was not significant except nephropathy, which was more prevalent in diabetics combined with pulmonary tuberculosis. |
