The Comparison of Cellular Immune Reactions in Mycobacterium Tuberculosis-Inoculated Guinea Pigs and Rabbits

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to investigate the immunological mechanism of the difference of susceptibility between guinea pigs and rabbits to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Authors measured the PHA and PPD lymphocyte stimulation indices in controls(guinea pigs, n = 13; rabbits, n= 12) , Mycobacterium tuberculosis. inoculated guinea pigs(n = 27) and rabbits(n=26) at a week intervals. The results were as follows: 1) There was no difference in PHA stimulation indices between control guinea pigs and rabbits(p>0.05), In inoculated guinea pigs, the values were significantly lower than controls from the 1st week to the 4th week after inoculation (p<0.01). But there was no difference in rabbits between control group and inoculated groups ( p>0.05). 2) There was no difference in PPD stimulation indices between control guinea pigs and rabbits(p>0.05). In inoculated guinea pigs, the values were significantly higher than controls from the 1st week to the 4th week after inoculation(p <0.01). But there was no difference in rabbits between controls and inoculated rabbits (p>0.05). These results indicate that there is striking difference of cellular immune reactions between guinea pigs and rabbits to Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
