Abstract
ln order to detect the sensitivity to antituberculous agents of a typical acid-fast bacilli from soil samples, 19 strains of soil acid-fast bacilli were isolated, and morphological. cultural and biochemical characteristics of these strains were examined. They grow rapidly in the ordinary medium and are more active biochemically as compared to the pathogenic human and bovine tubercle bacilli. These strains were slightly sensitive to streptomycin and highly sensitive to I. N.A.H. However, they were generally not affected by other available chemotherapeutic agents. Three strains out of 19 were rough forms morphologically and these forms were generally sensitive to chemotherapeutic agents and Iess lox ic to micc as compared to the smooth forms.
