Abstract
1) In 31 Cavitary tuberculosis patients who failed to heal by chemotherapeutics. artificial pneumothorax was performed together with the regimens for two to twelve months. 2) successful result in cavity closure and negative conversion was obtained in two third of cases having no pleural adhesion and in one third of cases having pleural adhesion. No remarkable side reaction was seen. Only minimal pleural effusion in twelve cases and partial atelectasis in one case was seen and all disappeared after the treatment was discontinued. 3) Artificial pneumothorax is useful selectively for drug resistant, cavitary lesion which is inadequate for surgery, and as an efficient hoemostyptic in single cavilary lesion.
