Abstract
Candida was studied in the sputum of 173 cases of normal persons, and 180 cases of Pulmonary tuberculosis, by the culture method with Sabourand glucose agar containing penicillin and atreptomycin. Canbiba species were classified by the method of “Marten et al". Positive rates of candida species were 20.0% in Pulmonary tuberculosis and 8.7 % in normal persons, Positive rate of Candida albicans was 72.2% in Candida-positive tuberculosis patients and 73.3% in Candida-positive normal persons. In Pulmonary tuberculosis patients, Candida positive rate was 13.8% in the serous-sputum, and Candida positive rate was increased in proportion to the increase of the sputum. There was no significant relationship between the extent of lung parenchymal Iesions and/or the Gaffky numbers with Candida positive rates. ln patients treated by the antituberculosis drugs, but not having used Isoniazid 16.7% were Candida positive cases. This indicates were a lower rate in the group not havins used of P. A. S. and S. M. and in the duration of their treatment, there was nothing significant in the Candida positive rates. In the cavitarious patients, the Candida positive rate was 30. 4%, which is high. The size of the cavity did not effect the positive rates of the Candida species. It was also noticed that there was no relationship between the Candida positive rate and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Positive rates changed with clinical symptoms, 27.3% of cases with cough, 24. 0% of cases with anorexia, 24. 1 % of cases with body weight loss, 25. 0% of cases with dyspnea, so that, these are slightly higher rates than average, but the 15.4% of cases with chest pain is slightly Iower. Vertigo ancl night sweating are not significant t o positive rates. Ap pendix: Candida albicans, which was found most frequently, was characterized by the formation of Terminal chlamydospore in the com meaI agar. ln the past, it was complicated and required a long time to find chlamydospore. But, through much experience, we discovered a simplified method for chlamydospore and report it here. Germs cultured purely at Sabouraud glucose agar slant, are collected with a platinum wire loop. The surface of agar reantiostabbed along the wall of tube to the base" and placed in a beaker filled with water. It is then culturd for one to two days at room temperature, (20℃) We observe lineal growth along the stabbed line. There-after, a small amount of culture is taken and placed on the slide, covered with cover glass, pressed, and examined by microscope directly and by staining. For staining, we used Pfeiffer's solution and Gram’ s reagents.
